No one goes into a relationship expecting it to be easy all the time. But lately, maybe things have felt heavier than usual. You might be stuck in the same argument over and over, or perhaps you're feeling distant from your partner and not sure how to get back to where you once were.
Sometimes it’s something big, like betrayal or broken trust. Other times, it’s just the slow build-up of resentment, miscommunication, or the stress of parenting and everyday life. You may be wondering if you can fix it or if it’s too late.
If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. I offer marriage and couples counseling right here in Spring, Texas, to help couples work through the hard stuff and come out stronger on the other side.
Hi, I’m Steven Monroe, LMFT
I’ve spent years helping couples find their way back to each other. I’m also a husband of nearly 25 years, a dad, and someone who has walked through my healing and recovery. I know what it’s like when things feel stuck, and I also know that real change is possible.
My background in both acting and therapy gives me a unique way of understanding people. I bring compassion, insight, and practical tools into the room, helping couples break out of unhealthy patterns and start having conversations that move them forward.
I use emotionally focused and attachment-based therapy, along with tools from CBT, family systems, and psychodynamic therapy. It’s not about assigning blame. It’s about getting curious, digging deeper, and learning how to show up for one another again.
What Couples Usually Come In With
By the time most couples reach out, they’ve already tried everything they can think of. You may be:
Having the same fights with no resolution
Struggling to communicate without shutting down or blowing up
Feeling like roommates instead of romantic partners
Trying to rebuild after infidelity or a major breach of trust
Feeling overwhelmed by parenting or life transitions
Wondering if your relationship can be saved
Whether you’ve been together for 2 years or 20, there’s no shame in needing support. Therapy can be a safe place to slow down and figure out what’s really going on.
What Working Together Looks Like
When you come in for marriage or couples counseling, my first priority is creating a space where both of you feel safe to talk honestly. That means no judgment, no taking sides, and no rushing.
Together, we’ll:
Look at the patterns keeping you stuck
Build skills to communicate more clearly and calmly
Learn how your past experiences might be shaping your current reactions
Explore ways to reconnect emotionally and physically
Set shared goals for what you both want going forward
It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. My role is to help you have the conversations that matter and give you tools to keep growing outside the therapy room, too.
What Can Change Through Therapy
Marriage and couples counseling is not just about solving problems. It’s about building something new, something stronger.
Many of the couples I work with in Spring, Texas, start to notice:
More trust and emotional connection
Better conflict resolution skills

Renewed intimacy and partnership
Confidence in facing life’s challenges together
You don’t have to keep guessing what your partner needs. You can learn how to really understand each other and start creating a relationship that feels like home again.
